This guide will review how to configure your android device settings for optimal performance with Smartwebs applications
Optimal Android Setup
There are two types of mobile devices:
"Wi-Fi only" models
which DO NOT have a GPS chip/built-in GPS capability
and
"Wifi + Cellular" models
which DO have built-in GPS chips and GPS location capability*
*Use of GPS tracking does not require a data plan
|
When choosing your device, consider the following
Recommended brands: Google, Samsung (Galaxy Tab S ONLY), LGT, Motorola
- We cannot guarantee compatibility or support for devices beyond the recommended brands or models listed above.
- Android versions supported: official versions of Android 5.x (Lollipop) and above.
Rooted devices and custom versions of Android are not supported (Lineage OS, Fire OS, etc.)
- Minimum onboard storage: 32GB
- Want to use mapping and GPS tracking? Choose a "Wi-Fi + Cellular" device.
- Apps available on the Google Play Store:
- Smartwebs Mobile Online: used with an active (wifi/cellular) data connection.
- Smartwebs Mobile Offline: used when device's data connection is poor, unstable or out of range.
Initial Android Device Setup
Before starting your compliance drive, please follow these configuration steps to prevent device and app issues in the field
All of these configuration settings are found under the "Settings" app on your device
1. Go to Settings > Connections > Airplane Mode. It should be set to 'OFF'.
2. Turn Mobile Data on by going to Settings > Connections > Mobile Data. It should be set to 'ON'.
If your device is wifi only OR you do not have a data plan enabled, you can skip this step.
3. Prevent your screen from turning off too soon while working out in the field by going to Settings > Display > Screen Timeout or Sleep and set to your preference.
4. Ensure GPS tracking will work when you enable it by going to Settings > Location > Location. It should be set to 'ON'.
We highly recommend setting up a PIN/password to deter theft and/or unauthorized use of your device.
To configure, go to Settings > Security & Location > Screen Lock.
On this same page you can configure how long the device can be idle before it locks automatically.
Troubleshooting
Experiencing white screens, slow loading, freezing or glitches within Smartwebs apps?
Please follow these steps:
1. If using the Offline app, please upload all of your work before proceeding. Otherwise your data will be lost.
2. Leave the Smartwebs app you are pressing your 'Home' button
3. In your App Drawer (where your applications are all listed), find the icon for the affected app.
Tap and hold this icon and then select App info
4. Select Storage > Clear Cache.
NOTE: If you are NOT in the middle of a violation drive, you may also tap the 'Clear Data' button for the Offline app. If you are currently driving, do NOT tap this button.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 but this time for your device's web browser.
6. If the problem is not resolved after step 5, you can also try restarting your device after these steps are completed.
If the app becomes frozen
NOTE: data loss may occur because the freeze may have prevented the item you were working on from saving correctly.
1. Leave the Smartwebs app you are pressing your Home button
2. In your App Drawer (where your applications are all listed), find the icon for the affected app.
Tap and hold this icon and then select App info
3. Under App Info, tap Force Stop.
4. Now reopen the app like normal.
Map View and Navigation/Tracking
When using the Map View on any Smartwebs app, Tracking is turned off by default so the initial view will be centered on your currently selected street in the Address List and NOT on your current location.
In this example, notice that the Map View is centered on 1900 Blackjack Cove- the same street we have selected in the Address List.
In order to see the units actually near you, you must tap on the Start Tracking button in the top left corner of the Map View interface. A blue icon will appear at your location on the map.
Whenever Tracking is turned on, the Map View will ALWAYS be centered on your location and NOT on the unit/street you currently have selected in the Address List.
You will be unable to move the Map View manually until Tracking is turned off.
